Michael

Michael O’Connor graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from University College Dublin in the Summer of 1993 and has been a member of the RIAI since 1999. Michael is a Conservation Architect on the RIBA Conservation Register and an architect accredited by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland in Conservation at Grade III.

From graduation in 1993 he began working with Quinn Savage Smyth Architects in the Autumn of that year on a wide variety of design projects. In Spring 1995 he joined Newenham Mulligan Associates and was project architect on a number of projects from light industrial to mixed use developments. In the Summer of 1996 he joined Michael Healy Associates where he spent three years. He was project architect on a number of interesting projects including Kilrush Community School, Newcastle West Office for Limerick County Council, Desmond Credit Union and St. Clements College.

After 6 years gaining varied experience working in other practices Michael formed his own practice in April 1999 and this practice merged with Ink Architects in 2002 to form O’Connor + Shanahan architects. In February 2013 the partners of O’Connor + Shanahan made a decision to work separately on private commissions while retaining O’Connor + Shanahan for public work contracts and some corporate clients. Michael then founded ‘praxis architecture’ to carry out privately commissioned work.
